It gets us going and keeps us going, even when we can’t see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Life has a way of separating you from your goals, but there are ways you can fight back and stay on.

I have put together a few strategies to help you stay motivated in achieving whatever goals you’ve set.

Set goals and set up a plan to achieve it!

If you want to learn how to stay motivated with your goals, then one of the first things you do after you identify your goal is to create a plan. Without a plan, it would be difficult to reach a goal as you would just be all over the place.

You should create a plan that details the steps you need in order to reach your goal;
What will happen as you reach each step
When and how you will track your progress, and more.

Being detailed with your plan will help you reach your goal and become successful.

Don’t give in to negative thoughts about yourself or goals

It is fundamentally important to stay positive – Do not give up! Focus on today and resolve to accomplish your to do list for the day. Every morning is a new day and a new opportunity to get one step closer to achieving your goals. You’ve set good goals for yourself and you deserve to attain them. Start fresh today and do the best you can. Do a little more every day or every week.

Cut out distractions

Staying motivated involves your ability to limit distractions. Television, Internet, cell phones, games, social media and excessive socializing count as distractions.
If you’re serious about your goals, then you have to get serious about just how you use the time that you do have.

Create blocks of time where you decide to turn everything off. This includes shutting down the smartphone, home phone, Internet, and anything else that can interrupt you.

This also means you have to limit some of your social time. We can’t stay motivated if we’re constantly engaging in activities that don’t help to move us towards our goals.

Avoid naysayers

Negative people can damage your resolve in subtle ways. Be aware of the negative impact that a friend or family member can have on your mental motivation to achieve your goals. Be sure you are not a negative influence because self-doubt can be your biggest enemy. Revisit your reasons for setting those goals in the first place.

Track your progress

Journaling about a new activity and tracking your progress toward goals will enhance motivation. It’s easy to see your progress when it’s posted on the refrigerator or on a cell phone app.

Make it fun

Attitude is everything. Find a way to make your task interesting and enjoyable. Depending on how you look at it, you can have fun doing just about any task. Ask yourself a couple of questions and as long as you learn how to have realistic expectations, any task can be fun.

Expect setbacks and don’t let them make you feel like a failure

Start each day with an activity plan for that day. Forget yesterday or what you might accomplish tomorrow. Don’t waste your energy on things you cannot fight; instead, focus on what can be done and keep moving forward.

Ask yourself what obstacles you might encounter while making progress towards your goals. It is important to be aware of all potential stumbling blocks because you can then decide how to deal with these obstacles, and when you actually run into them you will be able to eliminate them without losing your motivation.

Reward yourself whenever you meet a goal

Rewards feel good. Penalties feel bad. And that’s why they both can work well for motivating you. So, treat yourself whenever you complete something on your to-do list. And, be sure the reward is strong enough to motivate you.

Get Advice

Get somebody to be a mentor, a coach, or get a team of people around you, because by getting advice, you can sound out a problem or talk to somebody and they go ‘you know what, I had that and I worked through it by doing this’ – that’s a great way to stay motivated.

Motivation pushes you to work harder, overcome setbacks, stay positive and accomplish your dreams. Without it, it’s very easy to get distracted, cave under pressure or lose sight of your goals. I hope these tips and techniques are able to keep you motivated.
